Describe the first time you felt a strong affinity for nature?

My childhood in the Philippines initially motivated me and created a strong affinity for nature. I participated in rice farming, vegetable gardening, hog raising, shallow rivulet fishing, and seashell picking. I walked with my mother and aunts for about 8 to 10 miles back and forth to the farm, returning home with newly harvested rice, fresh fruits, vegetables, and raw materials for making bed mats. Everything was clean and safe; the air, water, and land were absolutely pollution-free.

Describe what motivated you to join the Lead Teacher Learning Community.

Proactive advocacy for a clean and safe environment motivates me to join the Lead Teacher Learning Community. Everyone should be aware of and take action to save our natural resources—air, water, and land—which support life. If we improve our environment, we are helping our fellow citizens of the world prolong their health and quality of life. Likewise, we will have healthy plants and animals that can provide us with clean and safe food.

Describe which On the Air activity is the most appealing to you and why.

Regarding the "On the Air Quality" activities, the most appealing to me is investigating pollutants in the air (Criteria Pollutants and Particulate Matter). These investigations provide clear data and facts about air quality conditions in particular areas—such as homes, schools, and work communities—where people spend most of their time. Conducting such investigations paves the way for making wise decisions about whether to stay in a certain place to remain healthy. Timely and appropriate decision-making matters when mitigating the effects of air pollution.

What environmental message do you have for young people?

Our planet Earth is at risk today, and time is running out. It is necessary to act lawfully and appropriately as soon as possible. Therefore, you need to conserve, preserve, protect, and improve it for future generations. Involve yourself in saving planet Earth. Never harm the environment where you and others live; instead, help make your environment clean and safe. Do this so that you and others may have a healthy, quality, equitable, and sustainable life in the future.
